Today, February 23, 2021, the Sapelo Island Cultural & Revitalization Society remembers and honors the life of a Sapelo Island Descendant, Ahmaud Arbery.
On February 23, 2020, Ahmaud went on his usual run only to be hunted by three white men with trucks and guns and lynched in broad daylight on a Sunday afternoon. SICARS grieves with his family and honors his life, his legacy in this fight for justice.
Ahmaud Arbery was one of us.
He was not only a child of God, but also a child of Sapelo.
SICARS, along with many other organizations around the globe demand justice for a life that was unjustly taken. No longer can we as a society stay silent.
Sapelo Island Cultural & Revitalization Society stands in solidarity with Marcus Arbery, Sr. and the Arbery family in honoring the life of a Sapelo descendant, a brother, a cousin, and a friend.
Ahmaud was prevented from finishing his run. So we are all obligated to finish this run for justice for him.
