In Loving Memory of Allen Bailey
The Sapelo Island Cultural and Revitalization Society (SICARS) joins our community in mourning the heartbreaking passing of Sapelo Island descendant Allen Bailey.
We are shattered by this loss. Allen was truly the pride and joy of Sapelo Island. He represented strength, humility, and an unwavering love for his Sapelo roots. From his college football career at the University of Miami to playing professionally in the NFL with the Kansas City Chiefs and Atlanta Falcons, Allen accomplished so much, yet never forgot where he came from.
To our community, Allen was so much more than a professional athlete. He was family. He was one of our own, and his achievements were celebrated by the entire island.
As a close-knit community, our hearts are heavy. We extend our heartfelt condolences, love, and prayers to the entire Bailey family during this incredibly difficult time.
Allen’s legacy will forever be a part of Sapelo Island, and we will continue to honor his life, his accomplishments, and the love he carried for the place we call home.
Rest in peace, Allen. Sapelo will always be proud of you.

Our Initiatives
Community Education
SICARS believes that our community can take responsibility for our future only to the extent that we can develop an accountable, culturally educated, and well-informed membership. Please join our efforts and become a donating member today. Please support our mission through making a donation to our general fund or specific projects here.
Land Use Planning
SICARS purpose is to address systemic threats to the survival of the community through land retention strategies, land use planning, and policy reform. These threats include tax and government planning agendas that directly affect our community and encourage or directly create the loss of descendant-owned land.
Sustainable Development
The human community within our rural and resource-dependent environment holds the key to environmental growth and development. The challenge for SICARS and Hogg Hummock is to redirect today’s economy both to sustain the environment and culture, and to position those descendants trapped in the economic bottom to take advantage of opportunities presented by our ever changing economic trends.
